In an attempt to increase its enterprise social networking efforts, Microsoft has recently acquired Yammer for $ 1.2 billion.
What is Yammer? Yammer is a social networking website which focuses on enterprises rather than families and friends like Facebook. It is a private social network for companies. Allowing the employees to collaborate across departments, geographies, content and business applications.
The Yammer platform may have had good days but getting acquired by Microsoft is certainly the best of them all.
The recent acquisition by Microsoft represents an attempt to adapt the major shift in the technology industry, incorporating Internet-connected services and social-networking tools. You can already embed any Yammer feed into any SharePoint Site and send links to documents, calendar events, and tasks from SharePoint to Yammer feeds for real-time collaboration. According to Yammer website, integration is available for SharePoint 2007, 2010 and Office 365.
