If your modem settings don’t look like the images below, please click here for settings of different software version.

I recently covered settings for PTCL Modem which is on version 3.10L.02.A2pB022g.d20h. This is the old software version. If you recently got your connection it is likely that your device is on the version 2. And this post will walk-through settings of version 2.

In order to access the PTCL modem page just type http://192.168.1.1 in your browser. The ip address might vary in case you have changed it. Once you enter the ip address of the modem you will be prompted for username and password. The default username is admin and password is admin. Once again this might vary in case you have changed it.PTCL-Settings-1

Now click on Advanced Setup on your left. Once you do, you will be greeted by WAN Settings page as shown in the image below.

This is the page where we will be entering the correct settings to have our internet working once again. ‘Check’ any already added settings and remove them. Once you are done removing previous settings, Click on Add. Once you do, you will see the following page.

PTCL-Settings-3

Enter ‘8’ in VPI and ’81’ in VCI as shown in the image above. Select ‘Path0’ in Select DSL Latency. Select ‘PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)’ in Select DSL Link Type. Select ‘Default Mode – Single service over one connection’ in Select Connection Mode. Select ‘LLC/SNAP-Bridging’ in the Encapsulation drop-down. Select ‘UBR Without PCR’ from the Service Category drop-down. Select ‘Strict Policy’ in the Select IP QoS Schedule Algorithm. Enter ‘1’ in Weight Value of the default queue and ‘8’ in MPAAL Group Procedure. Now Click ‘Next’ to proceed. The next page is about selecting the Connection Type.

However, if you have a copper line instead of fiber optic use the following settings instead. (Thank you Namrah for pointing this out)

COPPER WIRES: VPI will be 0 and VCI will be 103. and the PPP password will be “1234” instead of “ptcl”.

The image below is for your reference. PTCL-Settings-4

Enter any name in the text field and click Next. This will take you to PPP Username and Password page. Image below is for your reference.

PPP Username is usually the contact number you have given while getting your PTCL connection or the PTCL number on which your connection is installed. The password however is ptcl. In case of any doubts about your PTCL username feel free to call helpline at 1218. Because if you have hard reset your modem, there is a possibility that the password has been reset by PTCL automatically.

Select ‘Auto’ in the Authentication Method drop-down. Check ‘Enable NAT’,’Enable Fullclone NAT’, ‘Enable Firewall’, ‘Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports’ and ‘Enabel IGMP Multicast Proxy’. Click next to proceed.

PTCL-Settings-6

Leave this page as it is and click Next.

PTCL-Settings-7

Leave this page as it is and click Next. Now you will be redirected to Summary page.

PTCL-Settings-8

The Summary page shows the settings you have done. Now just click ‘Save’ and you are all done. Now your Internet should be restored.

there is another thing, if our connection is on fiber then the above mentioned settings will work. but, for the users using COPPER WIRES for their connections, for them the VPI will be 0 and VCI will be 103. and the ppp password will be “1234” instead of “ptcl”.
