Apple Unveils Fanless 12-Inch Retina Macbook Air

Announced today at the Spring Forward media event, Apple has finally changed rumors into reality with the announcement of the 12-Inch Retina Macbook Air boasting a fan-less design and a slimmer form factor.

We have summarized key features from the Air launch event to give you an overview of this new addition to Apple’s notebook lineup:

  • Starts shipping April 10th 2015
  • Prices Start at $1,299 (1.1Ghz Dual-Core Intel Core M, 8Gb Ram, 256GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 5300 GPU). $1,599 Gets you (1.2Ghz, 8Gb Ram and 512Gb SSD) while configure to order options will be available as well
  • Available in three colors; Silver, Gold Space Grey like the iPhone and iPad models
  • Comes standard with Edge-to-edge Retina Display (2304 x 1440), 16:10 Aspect Ratio
  • Weighs 2lbs and is 13.1mm thick (24% thinner than existing Air lineup)
  • Uses single USB-C port for all connections: Charging, USB, HDMI, VGA and Display Port. USB-C connector is available for $79 from Apple Store
  • Charged through 29W iPhone/iPad like USB-C Charger. USB-C Power adapter is available for $49 while 2m USB-C Charge Cable costs $29 from the Apple Store
  • Full sized USB port is available through the $19 USB-C to USB Adapter
  • Features new thinner edge to edge keyboard with butterfly mechanism for keys
  • New trackpad design with built-in-Force Touch, pressure sensitive and offers new customizable gestures plus haptic feedback
  • Boasts new Intel Core-M Processor line
  • Fan-less design allows for 67% smaller logic board footprint
  • New contoured battery design offers increased battery size and better performance; 9 hours of web browsing and 10 hours iTunes movie playback
