Review: Kingdom Rush

I love tower defense games. And recently I had the pleasure of playing Kingdom Rush and I loved it! It has been a while since I ran into a good tower defense game.   The game has map varying from green pastures to ice covered terrain. As the commanding officer against the forces of darkness, your objective is to protect your lands from the enemy attack by building defensive towers along the road to stop them. You are required to prevent the enemy from passing the gate. There are three levels of difficult: Casual, Normal & Veteran. There are a total of 12 maps which are part of the campaign. But once you finish them you get extra bonus maps including one endless map in which the enemy troops will continue to come till you lose by allowing 10 enemy troops to pass through the gate. These bonus maps are real difficult. So make sure you have completed campaign in all three levels of difficulty so you have enough upgrades. There are a total of four types of defense towers. The cheapest ones to build are Archer Tower and Barracks. The other two are Mages Guild and Artillery.  The archers and barracks are many defense towers throughout the game. You need to build barracks to block the enemies. And while they are busy fighting, give good archer cover to kill them. Artillery and Mages Guild can also be used for further damage. By winning each map you earn stars and gems. You can use these gems to buy different gadgets from Gnome Shop. These can be real useful so do give them a try. As you play along, you also get a hero. Heroes are real useful in later stages. The heroes gain experience by killing enemy troops. So more they kill, the better they get! You can select few heroes which are free. They have different abilities, so select wisely. You can win a maximum of 3 stars on each difficulty in each map. Using these stars you can upgrade abilities of defense towers and the special powers. There are two kind of special powers available. One is free reinforcements and the other is meteor shower. I personally love the Mages Guild. Once you upgrade it to the maximum level, it provides you good defense against most of the enemy troops. Different enemy troops have different resistance level. Some have little to no impact of Magic and others have strong armor. So you have to have a mix of all defense towers to get maximum protection against the forces of darkness.The best strategy to play this game is to build barracks and provide a good cover because these foot troops don't have much health. But they do help in slowing down the enemy or stopping them till they are fighting with them giving you enough time to take the enemy out with your archers, artillery or wizard towers.
