Apple has decided a new strategy towards network locked devices. They have decided to make it easy for the users to switch between networks without the need of changing the sim card. The solution is the new sim introduced by Apple on October 16th along with its iPad Air 2.
With the Apple SIM it will no longer be necessary for consumers to be tied to long-term contracts with one mobile provider. Switching mobile carriers will be as simple as selecting a new provider from a menu option on their iPad. Currently the participating networks are located in USA & UK only. The Apple SIM will work initially with T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T in the U.S. and EE in the U.K. And there aren’t many yet, but given the consumer power of Apple it is very likely that many other networks will also participate in this.
