If your modem settings don’t look like the images below, please click here for settings of different software version.

PTCL is not known for its customer service or maybe it is just a perception we all have. Or it could be that we love to troubleshoot ourselves first before we get queued on the PTCL Customer Care number which can take a few hours before getting connected to a representative. To help all those looking on how to configure their PTCL Modem I am writing this updated post with latest settings.

In order to access the PTCL modem page just type http://192.168.1.1 in your browser. The ip address might vary in case you have changed it. Once you enter the ip address of the modem you will be prompted for username and password. The default username is admin and password is admin. Once again this might vary in case you have changed it.

Now click on Advanced Setup on your left. Once you do, you will be greeted by WAN Settings page as shown in the image below.

This is the page where we will be entering the correct settings to have our internet working once again. ‘Check’ any already added settings and remove them. Once you are done removing previous settings, Click on Add. Once you do, you will see the following page.

PTCL-Settings-2

Enter ‘8’ in VPI and ’81’ in VCI as shown in the image above. Select ‘UBR Without PCR’ from the Service Category drop-down. Let all the check-boxes remain unchecked as shown in the image above. Now Click ‘Next’ to proceed. The next page is about selecting the Connection Type. The image below is for your reference.

Click on ‘PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)’. And select ‘LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING’ in the Encapsulation Mode drop-down. Once done, click Next. Now you will be redirected to PPP Username & Password Settings page. PPP Username is usually the contact number you have given while getting your PTCL connection or the PTCL number on which your connection is installed. The password however is ptcl. In case of any doubts about your PTCL username feel free to call helpline at 1218. Because if you have hard reset your modem, there is a possibility that the password has been reset by PTCL automatically.PTCL-Settings-4

After entering username and password, Select ‘AUTO’ in the Authentication method drop-down. Set MTU to ‘1492’. Check ‘Enable Fullcone NAT’. And check ‘Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports (Default Enabled). Leave all other check-boxes unchecked. For reference use the image above. Once done, click Next. Now you will be redirected to Network Address Translation Settings.

PTCL-Settings-5

Check ‘Enable NAT’, ‘Enable Firewall’, ‘Enable WAN Server’. The image above is for your reference. Once done, Click Next. Now you will be redirected to Summary page.

PTCL-Settings-6The Summary page shows the settings you have done. Now just click ‘Save’ and you are all done. Now your Internet should be restored.
